Project Overview: Bkkmarathon.com is the official information and registration platform for the Bangkok Marathon, one of Thailand’s largest running events, hosting over 10,000 participants annually.
The Challenge: The project required a major system overhaul (Redesigned in 2020) to address both user experience (UX) and backend scalability. The critical requirement was to build a system capable of handling high concurrency, ensuring stability when thousands of users access the site and attempt to register/pay simultaneously during the opening launch.
Design Concept & Strategy:
Immersive Full-Width Design: The site utilizes a Full-Width layout to maximize visual impact and provide a modern user experience across all devices.
Performance-First Media: Cloud-based video hosting and social media integration were implemented to allow auto-play visuals without consuming local server bandwidth, ensuring fast load times.
SEO & Structured Data: Beyond basic information, the site structure is optimized for Google Search (SEO friendly), allowing event dates and details to appear directly in search results (Rich Snippets).
Key Features & Technology:
High-Traffic Infrastructure: Integrated a CDN (Content Delivery Network) to manage massive traffic spikes and concurrent user access during registration periods.
Registration System: A streamlined interface allowing runners to easily select race categories and distances.
User Accounts: Supports Social Login (Facebook) and Email login for users to track their application status and verify payment details.
Payment & Notification: Connected with LINE for instant registration alerts and submission of payment proof.
Runner Database Management: A robust search system for finding runner details and a backend tool for updating BIB numbers.
Admin Management:
A simplified dashboard for admins to update registration statuses.
Drag & Drop Live Editor: A flexible CMS allowing the team to easily manage content and update event details without coding.
